LAMPWORK
Lampwork is the process of making a bead by wrapping
molten glass around a mandrel, shaping it, embellishing
with frits (small chunks of glass), additional glass or
silver and then putting it into a kiln to anneal so that it
will be resistant to breakage.
My lampwork is frequently the starting point of my
piece of jewelry and I go in whatever direction it sends
me.
SILVER METAL CLAY
Silver metal clay consist of microscopic precious
silver particles suspended in an organic binder
and water. It looks like modeling clay, is smooth
and malleable and is worked with the hands. Once
the clay is made into an object, it is fired in a kiln
where the binder burns away and the final project
is .999 fine silver.
VIKING KNIT
Viking knit is an ancient technique of
manipulating wire to form sheets or tubes of knitted
material.
I use sterling silver wire, knit it around a wooden
dowel, pull it through a draw plate and shape it into
the desired jewelry design.
